چکیده

Simulating natural phenomena at greater accuracy results in an explosive growth of data. Largescale simulations with particles currently involve ensembles consisting of between 10-10 particles, which cover 10-10 timesteps. Thus, the data files produced in a single run can reach from tens of gigabytes to hundreds of terabytes. This data bank allows one to reconstruct the spatio-temporal evolution of both the particle system in whole and each particle separately. Realistically, for one to look at large data set at full resolution at all times is not possible and, in fact, not necessary. We have developed here an agglomerative clustering technique, based on the concept of mutual nearest neighborhood (MNN). This procedure can be easily adapted for efficient visualization of extremely large data sets from simulations with particles at various resolution levels. We present the parallel algorithm for MNN clustering and its timings on the IBM SP and SGI/Origin 3800 multiprocessor systems for up to 16 million of fluid particles. The high efficiency obtained is mainly due to the similarity in the algorithmic structure of MNN clustering and particle methods. We show various examples drawn from MNN application in visualization and analysis on the order of a few hundred gigabytes of data from discrete particle simulations, using dissipative particle dynamics and fluid particle model. Because data clustering is the first step in this concept extraction procedure, we may employ this clustering procedure to many other fields such as data mining, earthquake events and stellar populations in nebula clusters.

A new 2D block ordering system for wavelet-based multi-resolution up-scaling

A complete and accurate analysis of the complex spatial structure of heterogeneous hydrocarbon reservoirs requires detailed geological models, i.e. fine resolution models. Due to the high computational cost of simulating such models, single resolution up-scaling techniques are commonly used to reduce the volume of the simulated models at the expense of losing the precision. Several multi-scale ...

Absolute Permeability Calculation by Direct Numerical Simulation in Porous Media

Simulating fluid flow at micro level is an ongoing problem. Simplified macroscopic flow models like Darcy’s law is unable to estimate fluid dynamic properties of porous media. The digital sample reconstruction by high resolution X-ray computed tomography scanning and fluid-dynamics simulation, together with the increasing power of super-computers, allow to carry out pore-scale simulations throu...

Object-Oriented Method for Automatic Extraction of Road from High Resolution Satellite Images

As the information carried in a high spatial resolution image is not represented by single pixels but by meaningful image objects, which include the association of multiple pixels and their mutual relations, the object based method has become one of the most commonly used strategies for the processing of high resolution imagery. This processing comprises two fundamental and critical steps towar...

High Resolution Image with Multi-wall Carbon Nanotube Atomic Force Microscopy Tip (RESEARCH NOTE)

In this paper, a simple and reproducible approach for attaching the multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) to the apex of the atomic force microscope probe has been proposed. For this purpose, the dielectrophoresis method was applied due to its simple performance, cheapness and reliability. In this method, various parameters such as voltage, frequency, concentration of carbon nanotubes solution an...

A Deep Model for Super-resolution Enhancement from a Single Image

This study presents a method to reconstruct a high-resolution image using a deep convolution neural network. We propose a deep model, entitled Deep Block Super Resolution (DBSR), by fusing the output features of a deep convolutional network and a shallow convolutional network. In this way, our model benefits from high frequency and low frequency features extracted from deep and shallow networks...
